

Andres R. Zapata went to be with his savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, May 1, 2013. He was born on February 4, 1929 in Del Rio, Texas to Micaela Rodriguez & Maximiano Zapata. Andres enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1948 and served his country proud in the Korean War as a sargeant. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with five bronze service stars, Combat Infantryman Badge (CIB), Commendation Ribbon with metal pendant, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Republic of Korea Presidential Citation. He was honorably discharged in 1954. He married Maria Hernandez on February 16, 1952 in Acuna, Mexico. They were happily married for 61 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Manuel Zapata, and son Jose Zapata. He is survived by his wife Maria Elena Zapata, his sister Esperanza Reyes, daughter Norma Cadena, son Andy Zapata and Katherine Hernandez, grandchildren Max Cadena and wife Cherrie, Rudy Cadena and wife Alba, Jennifer Cedillo and husband David, Jayson Zapata and wife Haley, and Adriana Cadena, great grandchildren Max Cadena Jr., Caesar Cadena, Natalie Cadena, Robbie Cadena, Lila Cadena, Larissa Cadena, Leah Cadena, Isla Esquivel, Brandon Cedillo, David Cedillo, Easton Zapata, and numerous nieces and nephews. Andres was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was always there when anyone needed him. He would go out of his way and do anything he could to help his family and friends, asking for nothing in return. He was a member of River City Baptist Church. The family would like to give a special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Baptist Memorials Retirement Center and Odyssey Hospice Care of San Angelo who cared for Andres with love and compassion.
Pallbearers will be Max Cadena, David Cedillo, Jayson Zapata, and Max Cadena Jr. Prayer service to be held on Friday May 3 at 7:00 pm at Johnson's Funeral Home. Military graveside service, officiated by Edward A. Lopez, Pastor of River City Baptist Church, will be held on Saturday, May 4 at 10:00 am at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Salmo 23
