Arthur Ray Elkins Sr.

Art was born November 27, 1941 in Charleston, West Virginia to the late Ernest Edward & Wilma Elkins.

Art cherished his time with his family and his late wife Rachel Elkins. Art & Rachel spent the early part of their married lives together traveling the world as part of the U.S. Air Force family. They made many lifelong friends along the way and made memories that have lasted a lifetime. Art was a proud veteran and a true American patriot serving in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years. When he retired from the USAF in 1980, he planted the roots of his young family in Rachel’s birth city of San Angelo, TX. Once retired, Art & Rachel continued their life journey traveling the U.S. visiting family, friends and all their grandchildren…continually building upon their life-long memories.

Art was preceded in death by his loving wife Rachel in June 2018. Art leaves behind his three boys, Randy Elkins & wife Melinda of Ft Worth, TX, Jody Elkins of Littleton, Colorado and Art Elkins Jr. & wife Gwen of San Angelo. Art, one of 5 siblings, was preceded in death by sisters Carolyn JoAnn Clark (Steve), Georgia Sue Brewer (Jim), and brother Leo Edward Elkins (Cathy). He is survived by his sister Ernestine (Tina) Piggott (Tom) of Sissonville, West Virginia as well as many nieces and nephews. Art is a proud grandfather to 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren whom he loved dearly.

A viewing will be held on Friday, February 5, 2021 6-8 pm at Johnson’s Funeral home 435 W Beauregard Ave, San Angelo, TX 76903.

Memorial Service will be held at 10 am on February 6, 2021 at PaulAnn Church 2531 Smith Blvd, San Angelo, TX followed by burial at Fairmount cemetery. A special thank you to Pastor Kirt Dauphin and the PaulAnn church family for the unending prayers and support.

Pallbearers are Randy Elkins, Jody Elkins, Art Elkins, Jr., Jace Elkins, Nicolas Bernal and Jacob Elkins.
