Betty was born in Madison, Wisconsin on November 18, 1919, and was raised in Kansas City, Missouri, by her loving parents Robert and Alice Lyman. Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Bill Shipman, retired DTC, USN. They met in San Diego, California, in 1943, and shared 52 years of marriage. They were blessed with three loving children, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
She was known by many as "Miss Betty" and was a dedicated Red Cross Volunteer at the Naval Hospital Pensacola for over 15 years where she worked in the E.R with her second family. She also served as a long-time member and President of the Wives of U. S. Submarine Veterans of World War II. Betty loved to travel and meet new people and she had a love for life, family, friends and her beloved dog, Chico.
Betty is survived by her three children: Riley Shipman and his wife, Sandy; Linda Shipman Bleau and her husband, Norm; and John Darrell Shipman and his wife Vicki. She is also survived by her six grandchildren: Tina (Shipman) Ervin, Kathy (Bleau) Justice, Karen Bleau, J.D. Shipman, Mandy Shipman and Scott Shipman; and two great grandchildren: Sam Ervin and Mackenzie Ervin. Betty was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
The family would like to express their abundant gratitude to Covenant Hospice and the staff at the Joyce Goldenberg Covenant Hospice Residence of Pensacola, Florida who shared in her final moments of life and were a tremendous source of comfort and peace.
