Bettye Jo Knight Hart, 92, of San Angelo, TX passed away on Friday, May 27, 2022. She was born on May 18, 1930 in Galveston, TX to Oliver Holmes Knight and Helen Kathleen Knight. Bettye attended Brownwood High School and graduated in the Class of 1948. She later went to Howard Payne University and studied business and accounting. Bettye then began her career in accounting, working for Weakley Watson in Brownwood as an accountant and secretary and later for Mitsubishi Aviation in San Angelo. Bettye finally settled into a 30 year career with GTE/Verizon in San Angelo. Bettye married William Louis Hart on August 31, 1957 and they had one child.
Bettye had a strong faith in God and grew up very active in the First Christian Church in Brownwood. Later in life she became a member of Sierra Vista United Methodist Church in San Angelo.
Bettye had a passion for being outside in her yard, loving all animals and being around people. Bettye will always be remembered for her deep love for family and friends. She absolutely loved all children and was especially fond of her son’s friends and grandson’s friends and all of her “baseball boys!”
Bettye is preceded in death by her husband, William Louis Hart (Bill), mother, Helen Kathleen Knight and father, Oliver Holmes Knight, sisters, Juanita Knight and Nelda Sampson Harkness, brother, Oliver Holmes Knight, Jr., mother in-law, Bernice Hart and father in-law, Ola Hart, brother in-law, Grayum Hart and his wife, Barbara Hart and brother in-law, Michael Hart and his wife, Helen Jean Hart.
Bettye is survived by her son, William Glenn Hart (Billy) and his wife Tara Lynn Hart, one grandson, Garon William Hart, and two granddaughters, Corrina Lynn Mitchell and Audrey Lynn Hart, three nephews, Bradley Hart and wife Maykin Hart, Larry Hart and wife Connie Hart, and Michael Knight and wife Doris Green Knight, two nieces, Debbie Mitchell and husband Phil Mitchell and Lyn Aldrich.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 10, 2022 at 11:00 am at Johnson’s Funeral Home in San Angelo, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a memorial donation to Critter Shack Animal Rescue of San Angelo. The family would also like to thank all of the nurses and therapists at Encompass Health in San Angelo and Hospice of San Angelo for their love and care.
