Bill Pool, 93, entered the gates of Heaven to join his Savior, Jesus Christ, and his beloved wife, Wanama, on December 25, 2020. He was the oldest surviving San Angelo Police Officer retiree. He was born in a farmhouse near Rochester, Haskell County, Texas, on November 29, 1927, to George and Annie Grace Culberth Pool. He was a proud U.S. Army veteran. He married the love of his life, Robbie Wanama Simpkins, on October 9, 1948. They raised two sons, Jack and Cleave. Bill worked as a farmer and on a seismograph crew until 1955 when he joined the San Angelo Police Department where he served 29 years until retirement in 1984.
After retirement, he and Wanama loved to take bus tours around the U.S. and Canada and they volunteered to deliver meals for the local Meals for the Elderly. He was a deacon at Hillcrest Baptist Church. Bill was an avid hunter and fisherman, and he enjoyed reliving his past adventures with his fellow police retirees at their monthly breakfasts. He was also a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Wanama, two brothers, Wyndol and R.C, twin sisters, Geraldine and Christine and two nephews, Steven Simpkins and Russell Emerson . He is survived by his sons Jack (and daughter-in-law Patti) and Cleave (and daughter-in-law Rickye) all of San Angelo; grandchildren Jackie Gift (Jerry) of Andrews, Jim Pool (Kelly) of Orange Grove, Stacie Arnold, Daniel Pool (Jessica) and David Pool all of San Angelo; 16 grandchildren, and, of course, his faithful dog, Sparky.
