He grew up in Lubbock, Texas and graduated from Central High School in 1982. He loved baseball and was a three-year varsity letterman in baseball at Central.
Barney was involved in the music world since his high school. His days with Texas Gold and Canyon prepared him for a career that would take him all over the world. He also spent numerous years with Toby Keith as his Sound Engineer. He also worked many years with Cowboys the Club in both Arlington and Dallas. On Sundays, you could find Barn running sound for church services at the First United Methodist Church in Plano. Upon his move back home to San Angelo, he was with Tradewind Sound. Barn was on the road a good portion of his life and made many, many lifelong friends all along the way. The Castro family has been deeply touched by the number of friends in the music community that have reached out with well wishes and prayers.
His sister, Yolanda, grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Juan Cardenas and Mr. and Mrs. Bonifacio Castro, Sr., and several aunts, uncles and cousins, precedes Barney in death. His faithful companion and best friend Lyric also preceded him.
He is survived by his son, Kaleb Castro of Phoenix, Arizona, parents Ms. Sue Castro of San Angelo, and Barney Castro, Jr. of Lubbock, Brother Rodney Castro and wife Peggy of San Angelo, and sister Jennifer Mobley and husband Chris of Tustin, California. Barn is also survived by nephews and nieces Lauren and Nick Castro, Maxwell and Grant Mobley, and Ronnie and Emily Burnside.
Our family would like to thank the staff of Shannon 3rd floor ICU for their loving care of Barn. We also truly appreciate the outpouring from friends and loved ones that put Barn at the top of their prayer list.
“For when the Lord Calls upon his Angels to return home, there is no fighting it. Today I had to accept this fact. You were my Best friend and my Role Model, but more importantly, you were My Father. You had the biggest heart and now I know where I get mine. One of my biggest fears was losing you and so don’t miss you. Watch over me now, with your beautiful smile and warm heart to help shine your light through me. Until I see you again big guy. I love you so much. RIP Dad.”
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. in the Johnson’s Funeral Chapel with Pastor Edward Lopez officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be me nights I would just sit up for hours worrying about you. But, I don’t have to anymore for you are in the place we all want to be in one day! You are gone way too soon, and there will not be ONE DAY that I made to the giver’s favorite humane society or organization.
Family and friends are encouraged to share photos and memories, send condolences to the family, and sign the online guestbook at www.johnsons-funeralhome.com . Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson’s Funeral Home of San Angelo.
