Doris Mayer Rousselot, beloved wife of Norm Rousselot, passed from this earthly experience into the heavenly choir on November 29, 2012 just days after her 80th birthday. We will sorely miss her physical presence, but we are joyful for her to have taken this spiritual step towards eternal life. She is sitting at the right hand of God, and is finally at peace.
The only daughter of five children, Doris was born in San Angelo, Texas, November 24, 1932 to Edwin S. and Minnie Mayer. Her love for family, friends, church and the San Angelo Symphony have been expressed through many years. An experienced pianist, whose talents were accepted by Julliard School of Music, entertained many throughout the years. Her love of music continued through the years of dedication and support for the San Angelo Symphony. Her symphony ties extend back to Eric Sorantin, founding director of the San Angelo Symphony, who played the violin at her wedding.
She was an avid reader, lover and collector of books, as anyone who has been in her home well knows. She was a charter member of The Sonora Woman’s Club whose sole purpose is to fund the Sutton County Public Library. She served on the Tom Green County Library Board/Stephens Central Library of which she and her brothers donated the funds for the Sol and Ernestine Mayer “Children’s Wing” of the new library. Doris loved to play the game of bridge and belonged to many bridge clubs that included a variety of age groups.
She was a philanthropist to an untold number of individuals and organizations. Most recently, along with her brothers Edwin and Richard, giving to the ASU AG PROGRAM for the construction of the Mayer/Rousselot Agriculture Education Training Center. She was on the Board of Trustees of the San Angelo Area Foundation, a lifelong member of the First Church of Christ Scientist, a politically active conservative and a staunch Dallas Cowboys fan.
Mother, Gramma, Dodo LOVED her family. She was happiest when her WHOLE family was gathered near her, whether it be at her home in Sonora, the ranch, the beach in southern California or somewhere overseas.
As she makes her journey across she will join two of her most cherished loved ones that preceded her, her brother, Robert (Bob) Mayer, and her beloved grandson, Mayer Anderson, an ever present joy in her life.
Doris met her LOVING husband Norman Wayne Rousselot at Principia College in 1950. They married on November 28, 1953 at First Presbyterian Church, San Angelo, Texas. She and Norm celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on November 28th, the day before her passing.
She is survived by her husband Norm, her son, Mark Rousselot, and wife Mallory, of Sonora; her daughter, Michelle Anderson, and husband, Steve, of San Angelo; her daughter, Renee Jossen, and husband, Barry, of Los Angeles, CA; her adored grandchildren Nicole McDuffie and husband, James, Reid Rousselot, Jordan Anderson, Evan Rousselot, Ruby Jossen and Avery Jossen; her precious great-grandchildren Addison and Cooper McDuffie and Mayer Hendrix Cotton. She is also survived by her brothers Edwin Mayer, Jr. and wife, Billye; Ralph Mayer and wife, Bobby Lou, and Richard Mayer and wife, Betty; along with many cherished nieces, nephews and cousins; as well as her two longtime household helpers, Margarita Martinez and Minnie Renteria.
The family wishes to thank church friend, Barbara Provencal, Hospice of San Angelo, Rotary House of Hope, and all of the Sonora and San Angelo caregivers.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, December 2, 2012 at First United Methodist Church, Sonora, Texas at 3:00 p.m. Arrangements are by Johnson’s Funeral Home of San Angelo and Kerbow Funeral Home of Sonora, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to San Angelo Symphony, ASU F.A.M.E.-Mayer Anderson Scholarship Fund, the Christian Science Society of San Angelo, or a charity of your choice.
