A man with many friends and the compassion to help others has passed from this earth to embark on his Heavenly journey on July 23, 2011 at the age of 91 years. Funeral services will be held at 11am, Johnson’s Funeral Home, 435 W. Beauregard, San Angelo, Texas. Burial will be at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
Eldo Wayne Young was born July 15, 1920 in Ranger, Texas to E.J. Young and Gertie Belle Lee Young. Eldo was inducted into the U.S. Navy August 18, 1943. As Electricians Mate Third Class (T), he proudly served aboard the aircraft carrier, U.S.S. Enterprise CV-6, the most decorated ship of World War II. He was honorably discharged on December 8, 1945, with twenty two Battle Stars.
Throughout his career he worked as a service technician and service manager for automotive dealerships, Lone Star Gas Company and Sears Roebuck Company. Eventually, Eldo owned and managed Young Appliance and Repair Service in San Angelo. Eldo was a charter member of the San Angelo Elks Lodge #1880.
Eldo’s Cherokee Indian bloodline instilled a strong bond with Mother Nature. Children and animals were instinctively drawn to his gentle patience, kind heart, and beautiful soul. Being a master gardener his proudest joy was sharing bountiful harvest with family, friends, and neighbors. His passion and knowledge of hunting, fishing, animals and horticulture was shared with anyone who was interested, but especially the children who lovingly called him PaPaw.
Eldo was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Bonnie Bowen. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Camilla Jean Caffey Young, sons, Wayne Sawyer and companion Deedie McIntire of Sonora, Dennis Young and wife Jennifer of Center Point, and Tony Young and wife Olivia of Ingram. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren, Jamey, Paul and Heather; and many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, outlaws and friends.
Pallbearers are Jamey Young, Mike McCoy, Joe Waren, Michael Waren, Will Strunk, and Rocky Robbins. Honorary Pallbearers are Paul Young, Tim Allen, Bubba Strunk, and Steve Schuster.
Loving husband, father, grandfather, sailor and friend, Eldo Wayne Young, will be deeply missed but surely welcomed at God’s door with “Why don’t cha come in?”
Heartfelt thanks to Dr. James A. Young and staff and to Peterson Hospice of Kerrville, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Peterson Hospice, 551 Hill Country Drive, Kerrville, Texas 78029 or the charity of your preference.
