Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 13, 2010 at Johnson’s Funeral Home chapel with Frank Berthold and Linvel Baker officiating. Burial will follow at Fairmont Cemetery.
Franklin was born March 31, 1926 in Llano County, Texas to Julius Anton and Lillie Kothmann Flint. At the age of 17, he quit school and joined the United States Marine Corps. He proudly fought in World War II in Okinawa, Sitang and Guam. It was during this wartime that he was injured and awarded the Purple Heart. He returned home and while on a trip visiting San Angelo, met the love of his life, Earlene Stewart. They were married on his 24th birthday in 1950. Franklin worked for many years at Birk Monumental designing and engraving headstones, including the one which will now mark his final resting place. He retired from the shop to take care of his grand girls. Franklin and Earlene built their long-time home on Atlantic Road where they enjoyed many wonderful friends and neighbors. Franklin was active with the North Angelo Lions Club for many years where he served in several leadership positions. He served as both a deacon and an elder at Chadbourne North Church of Christ for many years.
Franklin was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and grandson, Dustin Lowery. He is survived by his sweetheart Earlene Flint, his daughter Susie Lowery, his son Butch Flint and daughter-in-law Tamra Flint, his two granddaughters Jennifer and Jessica Flint, and his special friends and neighbors, all of San Angelo.
Assisting Franklin to his final destination will be Charles Dennis, Dwain Custer, Donald Lowery, Jack Renfroe, John Carter, and Ken Sherman.
Honorary pallbearers will be Buddy Beck, Dub Farris, and Ron Anderson.
The family would like to thank all the staff of Hospice of San Angelo and the Park Plaza Nursing Center for taking care of Franklin while on his journey back home. They have all been a true blessing.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorials be made to Cherokee Children’s Home, PO Box 295, Cherokee, Texas or the donor’s choice.
“A golden heart stopped beating, working hands went to rest. He broke many hearts to prove to us, he only takes the best.”
