

Fred Enriquez Dietz Sr passed away with his family by his side on September 1, 2021. He was one month shy of his 79th birthday. Fred was born on October 1, 1942, in San Angelo, Texas to William Edward and Mary Enriquez Dietz.
At the early age of seven, Fred began exhibiting his impeccable work ethic as a paper boy for the San Angelo Standard Times. He continued earning his own income while attending school through various jobs, including setting pins at the local bowling alley.
Fred graduated from San Angelo Central High School in 1961. After high school, he worked at Wendland Manufacturing Co. for five years. He later attended Angelo State University and Howard College in Big Spring, TX. He earned an associates degree in Applied Arts (Law Enforcement) in 1977.
In 1966, Fred was hired as a police officer for the San Angelo Police Department. He began his law enforcement career as a patrol officer and attained the rank of Sergeant in 1973. Fred provided security for Central High School for several years and worked at various local events throughout San Angelo. During his tenure with SAPD, he served as a supervisor in the Patrol Division and Criminal Investigation Division (CID). Fred was promoted to Lieutenant in 1984, where he was given the nickname “LT”. Fred retired in December 1997 after 32 years of dedicated service. He loved his job and was committed to serving the community of San Angelo. He was a great storyteller and loved to talk about his experiences as a policeman.
Fred married Odelia Sosa in 1961. They had three children, eight grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.
Fred was highly respected in the community. He never met a stranger. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, neighbor, friend, and mentor. Fred was also viewed as a father figure to many people. His kindness and generosity will be missed by all who knew him.
Fred enjoyed playing golf, going to casinos, spending time with his grandchildren, and creating memories with the people he loved. Food was his love language and enjoyed taking others out to eat.
Public visitation will be on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, from 5:00-7:00 pm at Johnson’s Funeral Home with the Rosary to follow at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at 10:00 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Belvedere Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the incredible nursing staff at 4 North and PACU ICU, Dr. Hume, Dr. Perret, and all the medical staff at Shannon Hospital that took such great care of Fred. A very special thanks to everyone that took time to check on him while he was in the hospital. It brought much joy to Fred hearing who had texted, called, asked about him and said they were praying for him.

Fred is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Anita Hernandez, his brothers Ralph Dietz, Edward Dietz, Donnel Dietz, and his son Freddy Dietz Jr.
He is survived by his wife Odelia Sosa Dietz, daughter Sandra Lomas and Jake, and daughter Lorraine Campos and Steve, and sister Mary Cecile Garcia.
