

Gil grew up in Earlimart, California. He was the eldest of 8 children, having three sisters and four brothers. At the age 17, Gil proudly enlisted into the U.S. Army where he served his country as a Tank Mechanic, stationed in Germany. Gil went on to marry his best friend’s sister, Virdia, when he was 21 and she only 16.
Gil was a hardworking man who provided a good life for his family. In the late 60’s he began a career in the field of oil exploration. These years were spent travelling all over the country, and to as far away as South America. Gil returned to San Angelo in 1986 after many years on the road. He then became self -employed with various business ventures including a backhoe service “Gil’s Dirty Work”; “Angelo Recycling Service”, and his current business “Gils RV Korral”.
Gil loved country music and always had his guitar within arm’s reach and ready to play his favorite Merle Haggard song. He enjoyed watching every old western movie ever made with his loyal dog and sidekick, George.
Gil is now rejoicing in Heaven after being reunited with his precious daughter Gayla McDonald, brothers Bob and Bill, and his mother and father.
Those left to cherish his memory are Virdia, his loving wife of 55 years, son Keith and wife Paula, daughter Carol Helm and husband Daniel, all of San Angelo; His Legacy includes his 11 grandchildren: Michelle McDonald- Denton, Sierrah McDonald -Edmonds, Jacob McDonald, Slade McDonald, Kyle Jolley, Brooke Jolley, Sara Jolley, Tyler Pustka, Mitchell Pustka, Patti Pustka, and Samuel Helm. He has 3 great grandchildren Khloe Belle Jolley, Carter Jackson Pustka, and Wyatt Mitchell Pustka- with William Scott Edmonds on the way. Gil is also survived by five siblings-(Brother) Louie Jolley, and wife Sheila of California, (Brother) David Jolley, and wife La-na of Dallas, (Sister) Anita Dunn and husband Stanley, of Dallas; (Sister) Judy Kelly, and husband Herschal of Arkansas, and (Sister) Tammy Romanazzi of California. Gil will be remembered and missed by several, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and close friends.
Family welcome those who would like to pay their respects to a viewing on Tues., May 26th at Johnson's Funeral Home, from 6-8pm. Funeral services will be held on Wed. May 27th, 2:00 pm, San Angelo Bible Church, with Pastor Jim Stanley officiating.
Gil will be laid to rest beside his daughter at Fairmount Cemetery.
