

Gladys Norene Allen Sturgill, 94, passed away Sunday, June 7, 2015 in San Angelo. She was born to the late, Jesse Lee “Jess”, Sr. and Jessie Bell Emert Allen on December 27, 1920 in Miles, Texas. A time of visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 10, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am, Thursday, June 11, 2015 in the Johnson’s Funeral Chapel. Rev. Darrell Smith will officiate. Interment will follow in Fairmount Cemetery. Johnny Allen, Lonnie Allen, Dwayne Faust, Marcus Simmons, Paul Bruton, and Tommy Clifton will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Gary Sturgill, Danny Sturgill, and Larry Cox. Gladys was a member of Veribest Baptist Church. She was a devout Christian and dedicated member of her church where she was in charge of the nursery for a number of years. Her love of children was evident in her life not only in the nursery service, but also in her commitment to the Foster Grandparent program. She was recognized for her dedication and service with Concho Valley in 1998. She married G.B. (Boerne) Sturgill on July 30, 1938 in San Angelo. Gladys worked 8 years at the Safeway Store in the Village Shopping Center and then went on to work at the San Angelo National Bank; retiring after 23 ½ years in the Customer Service department. Gladys was an avid domino player for the majority of her life. This lady was always ready to play anytime someone mentioned dominoes. Gladys will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Jerry Sturgill; one grandson; three sisters; two nephews; and one niece.
Survivors include her daughter, Wanda Lockhart and her husband, Jimmy of Big Springs; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; four sisters; one brother; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
