

Joseph was an active member of First Baptist Church, San Angelo, TX, and a volunteer at Baptist Retirement Center until he was unable to continue. Joseph enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy from 1935 to 1939. During World War II he joined the U.S. Maritime Service. Joseph retired from Texaco in 1973 as a Tanker Captain.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, brother Matthew, sisters Estelle and Genevie, all of Illinois, and first wife, Mary.
He married Julia Griffin in San Angelo, March 4th, 1996.
Joe is survived by his wife, Julia, Homer and Debbie Griffin of San Angelo, John and Jenny Griffin, Kaden, Karly, and Kendall Griffin of Houston, Deborah Griffin of Seattle, Washington, special niece Barbara and husband Roy Larson, nephew Robert and wife Roxanne Deshipper, nephew Richard and wife Nancy Deshipper, all of Illinois, other nieces and nephews, and family friend Suzanne King.
A memorial service will be held for Joseph at Baptist Memorials Chapel at 11:00 Saturday morning, November 23, led by Pastor James Hassell. A Private family graveside service will preceded at Fairmont Cemetery at 2:00 P.M. Friday conducted by Johnson’s Funeral Home.
Joe will be missed by all who knew him. He was a quiet man who loved to be with people. Joe loved the Lord and prayed everyday for those he loved.
