

Julia Shelton Griffin Schreiber was born on Sunday, July 28, 1918 in Rusk, TX to F.A. Shelton and Nora Julia Taylor Shelton. The family came to San Angelo in 1921. Julia graduated from San Angelo High School in May 1936. She also attended San Angelo College.
On June 3, 1936, Julia married Homer O. Griffin with Dr. J. Ralph Grant officiating. They were married 48 ½ years before his death on December 2, 1984. Together they built many homes and commercial buildings in San Angelo as well as throughout the state, and had a real estate company. Homer and Julia joined First Baptist Church in 1957 and served as active members for many years. Julia began teaching Sunday school in 1934 when she was 16. When her health kept her from regular attendance at church, she resigned after forty years of teaching the dear ladies in the Esther Class at First Baptist Church in November 2006.
After Homer’s passing in 1984, Julia met Joseph A. Schreiber. They married in March 1996 and continued as active members of First Baptist Church. Julia loved the Lord and was a faithful servant touching many lives. She and Joe spent the last few years in quiet retirement, loving each other and their Lord. Joe went to be with the Lord on November 20, 2013.
In addition to Homer Griffin and Joe Schreiber, Julia was preceded in death by her sisters Alice Nunn and Cora Page; niece Wilene Garlitz; and grand nephews Darren Gober and Stephen Allen.
Julia is survived by her loving son Homer Dale Griffin and daughter-in love Debbie Griffin of San Angelo; two special grandchildren John Griffin and his wife Jenny of Houston , and Deborah Griffin of Seattle, WA; and three precious great-grandchildren Kaden, Karly, and Kendall Griffin of Houston; nieces Linda Gober and husband Cliff of Midland, Louise Chance of Arlington, Nancy Allen and husband Jimmie of Comanche, and Patsy Beatty and husband Charlie of Waco, and nephew Buster Page and wife Zelma of Brigham City, Utah. Julia is also survived by many special great-neices and nephews and their children.
Julia Schreiber passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at a local nursing home.
A Graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday March 11, 2014 at Belvedere Cemetery with a Memorial service to follow at 2:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church of San Angelo. Arrangements are with Johnson’s Funeral Home.
Julia is survived by her loving son Homer Dale Griffin.
Most of her dear friends have already preceded her to heaven. It will be a time of great joy to be reunited with them.
