Lucy was born on November 18, 1943 in Levelland, Texas to Jaime Torres, Sr. and Luciana Torres. She started working at an early age picking crops. Lucy later worked at Angelo Community for many years. Eventually she began working at Shannon Medical Center where she retired after 25 years.
Lucy married Jerry Rivera on February 10, 1961 in Littlefield, Texas and celebrated 63 years of marriage. During this time, the couple had 6 children.
Lucy was a proud member of Templo Siloe and had a passion for the Lord. She thoroughly enjoyed serving in church and loved sharing the word of God with others. Lucy also loved her family - especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild. When she wasn't spending time with family, Lucy enjoyed watching her beloved Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers. She also enjoyed I Love Lucy, Elvis Presley, The Price is Right, and Walk the Line. Lucy will always be remembered for her caring heart and love she shared unapologetically with everyone she met.
Lucy was preceded in passing by her parents, Jaime and Luciana Torres; sons, Jerry Rivera, Jr., and Abel Rivera; brothers, Jaime Torres, Jr., Ray Torres, Sr., and Johnny Torres, Sr.; and sisters, Erminia Luna and Olga Rivera.
Left to cherish Lucy's memory are her husband, Jerry Rivera, Sr, of San Angelo, TX; children, Yolanda Cabrera and husband Paul of San Angelo, TX, Anabel Hopfensperger and husband Scott of San Angelo, TX, Albert Rivera and Alma of San Angelo, TX, and Adam Rivera and Mary Ann of Killeen, TX. Also left to cherish her memory are 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; brother, Fernando Torres, Sr. and wife Susan of Eola, TX; sister, Isabel Rivera and husband Herman of San Angelo, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A prayer service for Lucy will be held at 6 PM on Monday, December 30, 2024 at Johnson's Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at Johnson's Funeral Home with interment to follow at Eola-Mereta Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are Albert Rivera, Jr., Michael Gutierrez, Abell Rivera, Daniel Cabrera, Andrew Cabrera, and Michael Gutierrez, Jr.
Honorary pallbearers are Johnny Parra, Jr., Adam Rivera, Jr., Fernando Torres, Jr., Johnny Rivera, Jr., Slayton Carpenter, and Herman Rivera, Jr.
The Rivera Family would like to thank Dr. Norma Cerna, Dr. Andy Hall, and the Staff of Shannon Medical Center's 4th & 6th Floors for the care they gave Lucy.
