Robert Leon Townsend, 97, passed away March 22, 2013, in San Angelo, after a short illness. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Johnson's Funeral Home chapel with Paul Shero officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery. Leon was born in Lamar County near Paris, Texas on June 19, 1915. He was the youngest of six children of Fate and Elizabeth Townsend. All preceded him in death. Leon married Jeanette McNeely in 1938, in Dobe, Texas. Survivors include his wife, Jeanette; his daughter, Jan and her husband, Charles Smith of San Angelo; his son, Randel Townsend and his wife, Beth of Katy; two grandchildren, Tisa Hirschel of Delta Junction, Alaska and Gregery Townsend and his wife, Laura of Brookshire, Texas; half-sister Laura Jean Keller of Paris, Texas; nine great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. The requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to San Angelo Christian Academy, 528 Country Club Rd., San Angelo Tx 76904.
