

Robert Charles (Bob) Wallman, 88 of San Angelo, Texas died 26 January 2017 in San Angelo. Bob was born 17 May 1928 in Tulsa, Oklahoma while his parents were travelling. He grew up in Clifton, Passaic, New Jersey. He was the only child of Otto Fred Wallman and Iva Ida Amanda Margaret Buntrock Wallman. The husband of Jean Lorraine Farris, they married in 1957 at Smokey Hill Air Force Base in Salina, Kansas. Bob attended Bloomfield College in Bloomfield, New Jersey where he earned a Bachelor of Math and Science in 1951 and a Bachelor of Divinity in 1955. He earned a Master of Education at Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas in 1976.
Bob served in the United States Army from 1946-1947 and 1951-1952. He served in occupied Japan as a Military Policeman guarding Emperor Hiro Hito. He remained in the Army Reserves until 1955 when he joined the United States Air Force as a Chaplain. Bob and Jean globetrotted throughout the United States and Europe during their time in the Air Force. Bob served a year in Vietnam at Pleiku where he was awarded the Bronze Star. He retired from the Air Force in 1973 and was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal.
After retiring from the Air Force he served as Pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Alpine, Texas and then Memorial Presbyterian Church, Atkins, Arkansas. After he retired from the ministry Bob and Jean moved to San Angelo where Bob did Pulpit supply for many area Presbyterian Churches. He enjoyed running, target shooting, hiking, camping, jumping out of perfectly good airplanes, collecting guns and knives and good conversation over coffee. Never one to remain quietly at home he got involved by volunteering for Code Blue, Fort Concho, Meals for the Elderly, Rio Concho West and St. Paul Presbyterian church. He was awarded the Jefferson Award for his community service. He was a member of the American Legion, Boy Scouts, Masons, National Rifle Association, RSVP, San Angelo Gun Club, Texas Rifle Association and VFW.
He is survived by three children Sandra Franke (Ronald) and Steven Wallman of San Angelo and Scott Wallman (Tammy) of Newport News, Virginia and four grandchildren William and Robert Franke and Steven and Kimberly Wallman. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife and one daughter Sharon Denise Wallman who died as an infant.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Sunday, January 29th, at Johnsons Funeral Home, 435 W. Beauregard Avenue.
A graveside service will be, Monday, January 30th, 1:00 p.m. at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens, 4989 FM 1223, with Rev. Timothy Davenport-Herbst officiating. Pallbearers will be Bob Bluthardt and Cory Robinson of Fort Concho.

The family wishes to thank all the caregivers who helped Bob in these last years.
Bob loved to go out to lunch and went every single day until he was no longer able to do so. He always left a most generous tip. So go out to lunch, and double your usual tip in memory of Bob.
