Sherrell Glen “John” Fant peacefully passed away early Saturday morning in his sleep with family at his side. Born September 26, 1929 at St. John’s Hospital in San Angelo, Texas to Vera Carr Fant and Sherrell V. Fant, he was in his 82nd year.
John spent much of his childhood and youth in and around San Angelo including Veribest and Grape Creek. He met Allie Ann Wood Fant in Greenville, Mississippi while stationed there in the United States Air Force. After a year of courting they were married and lived in Denver, CO. After leaving the Air Force, John and Ann returned to San Angelo where they lived their 55 blessed years of marriage together until Ann’s death in December of 2007.
John and Ann’s family were their treasures. Their love endures and will continue to live on in their four children and 8 grandchildren: Son, Charles Fant and wife Matilda, of Amarillo, TX, and Charles’ son Winston and wife Kyla, of Lakewood Co; Daughter, Margie Fant Youngblood and husband Harvey, of Ft. Worth, TX, and children, Travis and wife, Allison, Reagan and fiancée Bryan Daniel, all of Dallas; Son, John H. Fant and wife Terri, of Ft. Worth, TX and children, J.T., Samantha and Kelly; and Daughter Mary Fant Snowden, of San Angelo and children Delaney and Emory.
John also leaves behind his only sibling, Sister, Jo Fant Valliant and husband Edward, of San Angelo, Tx, and their children Susan Valliant and Brian Valliant.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Sherrell V. and Vera Carr Fant and his dear grandparents, Arvilla Allen Carr and Will Carr, longtime residents of San Angelo and Fannie Bewley Fant and T.J. Fant longtime residents of San Angelo and Veribest.
He enjoyed a career in oil and estate management with Kenneth and Wilbur Brown in San Angelo. John much appreciated the privilege of early retirement, allowing him to spend precious time with his wife and family.
The Funeral Service will be 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at the First Christian Church with The Rev. Ben G. Hubert officiating. Everyone is invited to join the family for a light lunch in the reception hall immediately following the services. After lunch, a procession will be made to Fairmount Cemetery for interment. All are invited to attend.
John faithfully supported San Angelo Meals for the Elderly and The Central High School Band Boosters Club and memorials may be made to either organization.
The family wishes to express their love and appreciation to longtime friends to both him and Ann (Mimaw), Anita Rivera and especially, Maggie Gonzalez. Our appreciation and love also go to John’s dear friends and relatives and a very special friend June. The family would also like to extend special appreciation to the staff at The Shannon Regional Cancer Treatment Center staff, including Dr. James Studt, Kim Tannery, Hilton, Gina and Tracy.
