The angels in Heaven are rejoicing as they welcomed home their beloved brother in Christ. Ted S. Haviland, Sr., 69, of San Angelo, Texas passed away on September 28, 2021 surrounded by family. Graveside services will be at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 2nd. Ted Steven Haviland was born on October 14, 1951 in San Angelo, to Gaylord Burton and Billie Haviland. He attended Lakeview and later became a proud Marine. Ted married his best friend, Donna Collins on Oct. 17, 1971, at Belmore Baptist Church. They remained married until her passing in 2001. He has waited almost 20 years to be reunited with the love of his life in Heaven. Together, they had two children.
Ted was employed at Goodfellow Air Force Base for 35 years until he retired in 2012, with most of that time spent at the 17th Civil Engineering Squadron. Throughout life, dad was a thrill seeker and lived life to the fullest. He rode bulls; built and drove the #37 stock car at the San Angelo Speedway where he was track champion several years; enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being in nature.
Ted was a proud American, Texan, and Marine. Though he was a man of few words, he will be remembered most for his patriotism, genuineness, and desire to help others however he could. He regularly donated blood for many years. He loved his family and friends fiercely. He was so proud of his children and grandchildren. He also loved animals and always had at least two pets to love on.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to a local Veteran Organization or Animal Rescue of your choice. The family would like to thank all the staff at Shannon Medical ICU; the staff at Odessa Medical Center Continued Care; the staff at Los Caballos Veterinary Clinic; and the neighbors, family, and friends that helped us get through dad’s accident and recovery.
Ted was preceded in death by his father and mother; baby sister, Trisha Haviland; wife and best friend, Donna; grandson, Pace Haviland. Survivors include his son, Ted Steven Haviland, Jr. and wife, Liz of Lampasas; daughter, Angie Haviland and boyfriend, Scott Benne of Midland; sister Charlois Kelpe and husband, Roland of San Angelo; brother Stace Haviland of San Angelo; grandchildren, Tyler, Lane, and Hannah; great-grandson, Jameson.
