

Vera Stephens passed away in San Angelo, on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at the age of 93. Vera and her twin sister Vesta were born in Eunice, La., Sept. 11, 1920, to parents C. Clayton and Vera Vesta Cannon. Their mother died at the time of their birth. Vera was raised by her beloved grandmother Alice Tribble and her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Palmer of Del Rio. Vera married Richard Daughtrey in 1939. They had one daughter Alice Lee Kiser. In 1954 Vera moved to Sonora where she met and married Cecil Westerman in 1957, Cecil passed away in 1986. Vera met and married Col. (Ret.) E. Grant Stephens in 1991 in San Angelo. They had many happy years together traveling and spending their summers in Ruidoso, N.M. Mother was very active in the First United Methodist Church. She had a beautiful voice and sang in the choir and at many community functions while living in Del Rio. While in San Angelo, she was chairman of the Love and Care committee, served on the administration board, taught Sunday school as well as singing in the choir. The family wishes to express their love and gratitude to Mother's faithful and loving caregiver, Debra Garcia. Also to Medway who promptly served Mother's every need as well as Odyssey Hospice for their considerate care. Vera was preceded in death by her twin sister Vesta Hamilton and her grandson Gregory Alan Kiser. Survivors are her husband, E. Grant Stephens; daughter Alice Lee Kiser and husband Larry (Buddy) Kiser; granddaughter Jennifer Shay Kiser of Scottsdale, Ariz.; niece Janice Calverly of Weatherford; nephew Joe Davis of Dallas; her very close cousin Eugene Palmer and wife Tommie of Austin, and cousin Carolyn Palmer; stepson Joe Stephens; step granddaughter Alice Bibeau and husband Brett; and their child Dylan. A memorial service will be held at First Methodist Church Chapel 37 E. Beauregard San Angelo, Texas on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Sharee Harris officiating. Service will be under the direction of Johnson's Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice .
