Wayne was born October 18, 1936, in San Angelo to Emmett and Margaret Newton Vick. He grew up in the Knickerbocker Community and went to school in San Angelo where he was a baseball player at San Angelo High School. In 1958 he proudly joined the Army National Guard and served his country honorably for 6 years. He was called to active duty during the Berlin Crisis of 1961.
He married Jewel Wanoreck on September 5, 1959, in San Angelo, at which time they began a lifelong partnership in the home building and construction business. You knew you were getting a quality home when you got a ‘Wayne Vick built home’! Together they took on numerous business ventures over the years including dirt & oil field location construction, apartment construction and operations, before finally settling into his passion of farming and raising show goats.
Pawpaw enjoyed not only participating in sporting activities, but most especially watching his grandchildren participate in their various undertakings and if he was unable to attend, he always relished hearing the details. His grandchildren were the light of his life! Wayne was a very generous man who would do anything to help his family. There’s a saying “God gave us loving grandchildren as a reward for all our random acts of kindness.” That statement is certainly true of Pawpaw because he was blessed with 4 wonderful loving grandchildren and their spouses who loved him deeply.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents Emmett & Margaret Vick, his loving wife Jewel of 47 years, brother-in-law Richard Theriot and sister-in-law Lynn Vick.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Mickey and Sharon Vick; his daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Darrell Cmerek; grandchildren, Dustin and Megan Vick, Whitney and Jason Cross, Cassi Cmerek, and Colton Cmerek all of San Angelo; his brothers, Cal Vick, and Roy Vick and wife Carolyn of San Angelo; sisters Bernice Cahill and husband Pat of Fort Worth, FayBrosig and husband Stan of Midland, Roxie Cauley and husband Lehman of San Angelo; sister-in-law Joan Vick of San Antonio; brother-in-law Jodie Wanoreck and wife Jonann of San Angelo; Aunts Laverne Zuehlke and Dorothy Gaines and husband JR as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends.
