Albert Hilmar Hubertus

Msgr Albert H. Hubertus, age 99 years, died on October 13, 2025. He was 2 ½ months shy of his 100th birthday. Msgr Albert was born on a farm, between Selma and New Braunfels, on December 3, 1925. He was the second oldest of seven children of Joachim and Leonora (Fey) Hubertus. In 1939, at the age of 13, he joined St. John's Seminary. He was ordained into the priesthood on May 27, 1950. Following his ordination he served at parishes in Fredericksburg, Kerrville, Selma, Weimar, El Campo and his final parish, which he was instrumental in establishing, St Anthony Mary Claret in San Antonio. In 2000, at the age of 75, he retired and took up residence at Casa de Padres, a retirement center for priests, In September of 2021, he decided it was time to retire, again, so he gave up driving, cooking, cleaning his apartment, etc., and moved to an assisted living retirement home for priests, Padua Place, where he remained until his death.

Msgr Albert was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Arthur (Mildred) Hubertus, Lawrence Hubertus, and Msgr. Gerald Hubertus. Sisters, Dorothy (Odell) Moose, Rosalie Hubertus, and Sylvia (Milton) Erben. He is survived by his nieces, Donna (Bob) Durst Linda (Larry) Snider, Nancy (Deant) Jackson, Patricia Perry, Barbara (Alton) Ahrens, Julie (Christine) Hall, and Susan Ferguson. Nephews, Patrick (Pat) Hubertus, Steven (Patty) Hubertus, Phillip (Sharon) Erben, Jeffery (Judy) Erben, Glen (Michelle) Erben, William (Sarah) Erben, and Bobby (Sandra) Hubertus. Also surviving are numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Selma, with a Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m.

A Funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 16075 N Evans Rd., Selma, Texas, 78154.

Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller will officiate. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
