

Alfonso (Al) V. de Leon passed away peacefully on February 4th, 2025. He was an extraordinary son, brother, father and husband. He survived by his wife, Mary, daughter, Angela (Bartolo) Jimenez, son, Jose (Cyndi) Martinez, stepson Cole (CJ) Mulkey. Siblings Lauro (Aurora), Oralia (†Walter) Rodriguez, Carmen (Jessie) Tello, Julia (†Tommy) David, Ruben de Leon, Janie (†Thomas) Frasier, Jose (Susanna) de Leon, Robert (Connie) de Leon, Rudy (Rosie) de Leon and numerous Nieces and Nephews. Grandchildren Breana (Martin), Christopher (CJ) (Grace), Alma, Bartolo Jr., Destiny (Joey), and Jose III (Rhianna). Great-grandchildren Zane and Zaylynn. Preceded in death by his parents Lauro de Leon and Concha Vasquez’s brother Juan (Pasty) V. de Leon and (first wife) Alma Rosa Deleon.
Alfonso was a dedicated family man and would help any family member or neighbors when needed. He was extremely proud of Angela, Jose and Cole and would not have asked for any better children. He was also extremely proud of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
While growing up on the Westside, he graduated from Sidney Lanier High School. Alfonso started his first job at the Truss and Component Company and eventually landed a job at Kelly AFB and was later transferred to Tinker AFB, in Oklahoma where he completed his 30 years of Civil Service. Alfonso and Mary moved back to San Antonio November 2011.
Alfonso had many passions, one being wood working. He Loved to make drawings and then bring them to fruition. He also had a passion for good food and didn’t mind driving to get it. There were numerous trips made to Oklahoma to get his “low carb” Mexican at Tarahumara’s Mexican Café and Cantina and of course Whataburger, in Corpus Christi, Texas, they tasted better there. and there was also room for dessert at Braum’s ice cream. He also enjoyed some San Antonio restaurants like, Rita’s Fiesta Café, Sazon Mexican Café and Jim’s.

A visitation for Alfonso will be held Tuesday, February 25, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera Road, San Antonio, TX 78238, followed by a rosary at 7:00 PM.
