So sorry to hear about Al. I remember him well from school. My condolences to you, Cathy, and to all the family members.

I am broken hearted to hear about Al’s passing. I worked with Cathy for several years and although I never got to meet Al, I felt like I knew him.  Cathy talked about him all the time. We laughed daily and shared stories about husbands, kids, animals, and of course New Orleans. 

Cathy, my prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time. Remember that you had a love and bond that most people never get to experience.

I can clearly remember sitting on the porch with Grandma, waiting for Uncle Al to get off the school bus. I would run to him, and he would pick me up and throw me up in the air. He always made time for me, and made me feel special. 
That was over 60 years ago, and I have never forgotten it. 
I am sincerely sorry Aunt Cathy for your loss.

Dad

Been thinking of all the memories I have of my Dad this last week

One of the earliest memories I have is when I was around 4 years old and we were living in Little Rock.   Bad storm with tornado was coming and I remember my Dad coming home from work having to run into the house to beat the storm.  The neighbor’s shed ended up in our backyard.  

Dad was a hard worker whether at the company or at home.  He always provided for his family and we never went without any we truly needed.  

He was extremely patient man. Well to a point and you didn’t want to push him passed it.  Guess he had to be patient with us as his family. 

Kind and peaceful could be used to describe him.  He was never one to start an argument or trouble. I once as a child asked him if he could ever hurt anyone. To my surprise he said he could.  He went on to elaborate that if someone to harm his children they would sorry.  We always felt safe  growing up.  

Educated and intelligent.  He was well educated himself and continued to learn through out his life.   This is also something he impressed upon all of his children. 

I have many memories of spending time with him with baseball, fishing, hunting, holidays and family vacations. But the best times are not of us doing anything special but just being a family. 

Overall my dad was an excellent role model on how to be a father and that is something I will never forget. 


We are so sorry about the loss of your Precious Al. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your Family at this time and always.

To a loved man by his children. They will miss you 

Dad taught us so many things growing up.  We all learned how to fish and how to do our Math homework.  We all learned how to bait our own hooks, wait patiently and watch those bobbers in the water, and how to pull your line out without letting the fish get loose.   I have so many memories of the road trips and family outings to Louisiana and back.  We also went on adventures to places like Colorado, New Mexico, and local Texas locations too.   He and Mom made sure all four of us went to college.  He was a wonderful father to all of us.  I’ve always been proud that he was my Dad. 

Many a middle school night were spent at the Kahl house and always saw them as an extra set of parents. Love you all and praying for you. - Nedra (Kirkland) Bunk

Al was a good neighbor and kind-hearted cat lover (like me) who I will greatly miss chatting with in our respective front yards. Rest in peace.

When we were growing up, my siblings and I always enjoyed Uncle Al’s visits to our home on Military Road. He told us the about places he had been;  he taught Debbie and me how to play chess; he loved Slidell High, LSU, and our daddy and always shared stories about all of them.  We loved his loyalty, his patience, his quick wit, and his gentle spirit. Certainly Uncle Al’s children felt blessed to have that kind of dad; we certainly felt that way with our dad.

Our hearts ache for y’all during this difficult time.

Al was a very special man.  His quiet demeanor quick wit and infectious humor and smile will be missed but not forgotten.  A couple of memories to share.  After Jeff Kahl and our Carrie were married,  Al, Cathy, Jeff and Carrie together with the rest of the family came over to my house for a "Cajun shrimp boil"..food,  family,  fun and laughter.  
A few years ago,  we all celebrated the graduation of 2 grands - one from college and one from high school...Al and Cathy watching LSU..on TV; again food, fellowship, family and friends plus lots of laughter and smiles...sweet memories 
Cathy, you and your beautiful family are in my prayers.  Love you..Katherine Robinson...


I have such fond memories of Uncle Al. He had a warmth, spirit and smile that was peaceful and easy. I appreciated the roles he played in my life of Uncle, tutor, mentor, and the person who infected me with a spirit for LSU. I will miss you Uncle Al and I want to thank you for all that you have left behind of yourself in this world.
