Alfredo V. Lerma, Jr.

Alfredo “Blackie” Valdez Lerma Jr., age 89, of San Antonio, died Sunday, August 11, 2024. Alfredo, or as his friends called him, “Blackie”, knew what being a hard worker was at a very young age. Coming from a family of 10, Blackie worked hard to help support his family. He held various jobs at a young age but the jobs he most cherished were working in the beer industry. With three small bars under his belt, his hard work and dedication earned him a position as a Sales Rep at Falstaff, Budweiser, and then retiring from Coors. Memories of Mr. Bill Crain, working downtown at events such as Fiesta, and the numerous charitable events he provided services for, always brought a great smile to his face. None of these compared to the love he had for his wife, Maria Luisa Lerma. With Maria by his side, they were married for 42 years. Blackie had a love for playing pool, hanging out with his friends, and participating in lottery events. He was a proud supporter of the Houston Astros, Dallas Cowboys, and the San Antonio Spurs. One thing about Blackie, he was very proud of his family, but most of all being a grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria Luisa Lerma; parents, Alfredo and Maria Lerma; brothers, Manuel Castillo, Joe Lerma, Jesse Lerma, and Samuel Lerma; and sister Mary Castilla. He is survived by his sisters, Yolanda DeLeon, San Juana L. Guevara, and Lydia L. Esquivel; brother, Rafeal Lerma; his daughters, Maria Dolores Freitag, twins, Sophia Gonzales and Sarah Duke, Frances Ramirez, and son, Ahren W. Duke III; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive guests from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at Porter Loring Mortuary.
