

Born 24 December, 1933, in Ferryville, Wisconsin to Adolph and Amanda Thompson, he grew up in La Crosse, Wisconsin where he graduated from Logan High School. On February 15, 1952, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. A veteran of both the Korean War and the Vietnam War, his distinguished military career included assignments in Illinois, Japan twice, Germany, Maryland, Texas, and Greece. On December 31, 1978, Al retired in San Antonio, Texas, in the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He continued to serve his nation as a Department of the Air Force civil servant until 1994 when he retired, culminating in more than 40 years of service to his country. In retirement, Al remained devoted to his country and fellow service members.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-five years, Eileen Barney Thompson, his son William Thompson and wife Dianne of Red Bank New Jersey, his daughter Catherine Lovelady Lt Col, USAF, Ret. of Colorado Springs Colorado, and his four granddaughters: Linda Thompson, Elizabeth Thompson, Patricia Thompson, and Katherine Lovelady. Al is also survived by his two sisters, Meg Feally and husband Frank of San Jose California and Doris Grimsled of La Crosse, Wisconsin.
A Funeral Mass for Allan Thompson will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, July 9, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 20523 Huebner Road followed at 1:00 p.m. with internment with military honors at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Friends are also welcome at Porter Loring Mortuary North, 2102 North Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, Texas on Thursday, July 8, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
