Alonso Canales age 66 crossed over to eternal life on Wednesday August 10th 2011. He is survived by an extended loving family; wife Rosario Cristan Canales and son Jacob Jude, sisters Queta Young and Dell Estrada, Brothers Ernesto, Raul and Armando Canales and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Al was born in Uvalde, Texas but he spent the majority of his life in San Antonio. Alonso, better known as “AC”, graduated from MacArthur Highschool. He soon joined the U.S. Navy Sea Bees where he honed his love of country, service and architectural engineering. His drafting and building skills, combined with natural artistic ability, helped him become what some would call a “self-made engineer”, in a lifelong career that he loved and in which he excelled until one day being named Vice President and founder of the ISI Engineering Department.
An avid reader, he also loved gardening and had a particular love and childhood nostalgia for anything to do with trains. Best known for his wry, witty and snappy sense of humor, “AC” was above all, a loving husband, father and brother. A hardworking man of integrity, he will be loved always and by many. The laughs will never be forgotten.
A Rosary/Vigil will be held on Thursday, August 18, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. A Graveside Service will take place Friday, August 19, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
