

Alta graduated in 1928 from Geneva High School as valedictorian. She married Charles G. Skidmore, also of Geneva, on June 20, 1928. Their only son, Charles Leslie Skidmore, was born in Geneva on July 22, 1929.
Alta spent her life in and around Geneva and Cleveland except for living in Denver, Colorado during 1936-1941, and the last two years, when she resided with her son, Leslie and his wife, Elsie in San Antonio, Texas.
She worked her whole adult life in various positions including owning and operating two grocery stores, apartment house manager, saleslady for ready-to-wear ladies clothing, inspector at Case Plant in Cleveland during WWII making cannon ammunition shell casings, and most recently, for more than twenty years managing a dry cleaning establishment.
She married Albert E. Johnson of Geneva after WWII until his passing, and subsequently married Gerald Bishop of Cork until his death. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Ralph and sister, Blanche.
She is also survived by her granddaughters, Sharon Ann Phillips and husband Dr. Matthew Phillips of Temple, and Lesley Alta Mergele and husband Sgt. Joe Mergele SAPD; four great-grandchildren, A.J. Mergele, graduate of Texas Tech University residing in Dallas, Sara L. Mergele, a senior at Texas Tech Health Science Center in Lubbock, Mark Phillips, a sophomore at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, and Rick Phillips, a junior at Boulder Creek Academy in Bonners Ferry, Idaho.
Services will be Friday, September 19, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. from the Kennedy-Billman Funeral Home in Geneva, OH, with the Rev. Shirley Deemer officiating. Interment to follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Nazarene Church in Geneva, Ohio.
