

While attending his beloved Texas A&M University, he took a 2 year leave of absence to serve in the Army during World War II. Returning to A&M after the War, he earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. Al served his country as a Captain in the Air Force Reserves during the Vietnam conflict.
Al's passion for the nature and wildlife were reflected equally in his love of hunting and fishing, and his 50 years of dedicated veterinary care.
He served as President of the Veterinary Medical Association of Bexar County and was a long-time volunteer with the San Antonio Livestock Association. Al headed the annual rabies vaccination drive for many years. He was also active in his community. He was a current member and served as president of the San Antonio Executive Association and was a long-time member of the San Antonio Rotary Club.
The very best accolades are from the many who called him friend. His respect for his fellow man, his integrity and dignity engendered a loyalty and trust that recalled bygone years when a simple handshake was a promise. We who called him friend will miss him greatly.
Dr. Rees was preceded in death by his parents, Dixie and Alvin Rees, Sr., and his sister, Ruth Phillips.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Patricia "Kim" Rees; children, son, Gary Barth Rees; daughter, Meredith Rees; son, John Kimbrough; daughter, Vickie Jones and her husband, Michael; daughter, Sandy Shipley and her husband, George. He had seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren and a host of friends. The family would like to give special thanks to Josie Escobedo.
