Anne Scanlan Glass passed to her Heavenly home Tuesday, August 6, 2002 at the age of 91 to join her loving husband of 62 years, William Phillips Glass, who died November 24, 1996. Anne, born November 2, 1910, met Bill at the University of Texas where he graduated from law school. Married in 1934, Anne and Bill built and ran three insurance companies from their building on Broadway and Burr Road. They were founding members of St. Luke's Episcopal Church and Bill served on the first vestry. Love and concern for their families came first in their lives. Great believers in the value of education, Anne and Bill helped numerous members of the large Scanlan, Glass and Wright families attend college. Anne's fun-loving Irish wit and humor, courageous English grit, trust in God, and hope for the future saw her through many battles against cancer and inspired her family. She saw God's hand in her life and often spoke of her Guardian Angel. To the day she died, she was interested in her children's and grandchildren's plans, national news, market fluctuations, and humorous stories that came her way. She always continued to learn. She will be remembered for acts of love given to many, determination to do what she believed right, high intelligence, numerous abilities, and tremendous courage sprinkled with humor and laughter. She is survived by her beloved family; daughter Nancy Anne Glass West, Nancy's husband, Dr. Donald West a son to Anne, granddaughters Kelly Anne West and Janie Lynne West Kothmann, Janie's husband, Jim Kothmann, and great-grandsons, Mason William Kothmann and Connor West Kothmann, the delights of her life. Other beloved family members and friends are the Batsells, Scanlans, Glasses, Wrights, Kuehnes, Strubes, Kothmanns, Hugh Hill, Dr. Charles and Dianne Singleton and other neighbors, Rosemary Bolte, and friends at St. Luke's Episcopal Church and Lake Placid. Among the many blessings of her life, she counted physicians Dr. Lon Smith and nurse Bonnie Clark, Dr. Phillip Zinn, Dr. George Burkholder, Dr. Paul Smith, and Dr. Michael Wooley, and clegymen The Reverend Omar Pitman, The Reverend Paul Hancock and Cynthia Hancock, and the Reverend Hugh Magers. Anne and her family were also grateful for the kindness and care of Juanita Leija, Alma Morales, Rosalinda Hernandez, and Rita DeLeon. Anne's memorial service will be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Saturday, August 10, 2002 at 11 a.m. Those wishing to honor her memory may make contributions to St. Luke's Episcopal Church or your charity of choice.
