On Tuesday, November 2nd, 2023, Annetta Eileen Wilson Pattie, beloved mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother died peacefully at the age of 103 with her daughter by her side at Morningside Manor in San Antonio, Texas. Ann was proceeded in death by her husband Charles and son, Charles Cameron Pattie.
She is survived by her daughter, Pamela; her son, Craig and daughter-in-law, Nancy; granddaughters, Caroline, and Nadine; grandsons, Will and Jourdan; grandniece, Nell; and grandnephew, Simon. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Marie Parfitt Pattie, widow of Charles Cameron Pattie. Ann will be deeply missed by her family.
Ann was born on April 26th, 1920, in Palatine Bridge, New York to Russell and Veta Wilson. During her childhood she and her family lived in New York, Kansas, and Texas where her father, a pharmacist, owned drug stores.
She graduated from high school in Palestine, Texas, and the family moved to Livingston, Texas where her father owned two drugstores. While Ann was working in one, she met Charles Mack Pattie, a reserve officer, with the Civilian Conservation Core. In June 1939, they married and lived in Apple Springs, Texas. As the CCC was disbanding, Charles joined the 1st Cavalry as a Lieutenant at Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas. During Charles' career, they and their three children Pamela, Cameron, and Craig lived in Texas, Missouri, South Carolina, and at two foreign postings Panama and Germany.
Ann loved to travel, and her sense of good humor really came through once when having to wade through the flooded streets of Bangkok with her husband to get to the American Ambassador’s house for a reception. Upon arriving she was asked if she would like to wash; she calmly replied, "yes, my feet." Ann will always be remembered by her friends as elegant and refined in dress and in manners. As an Army officer's wife, she took on leadership roles in the women's clubs.
Upon her husband's retirement, the family lived in San Antonio. As a member of Grace Presbyterian Church, she served in different offices in the Women of the church: twice as president and was made an Honorary Life Member of Presbyterian women. An avid gardener, she was a member of the Mariposa Garden club and won first prize in the San Antonio Garden Center flower show for her Sweet Peas. She also loved roses and grew them in a circular bed in the backyard and along the side of the family home. She served two terms as president of Super Adults, a large social club, sponsored by Laurel Heights Methodist Church.
A sincere thank you to the nurses and caretakers at The Manor, Morningside Ministries and VITAS Healthcare Team 554 for their love in caring for Ann from the family.
