Annie Rose was a strong woman who battled through tough social and economic difficulties in her early life.
Annie Rose was born in Lockhart, Texas to Telesforo and Fannie Perez; the only daughter. She would later have three brothers: Ralph, Joe Edward, and Jose Rumaldo.
Her early life was difficult, especially during the Great Depression. The family move around the Central Texas area mainly looking for work. The family spent many years living in East Austin. She and family survived the great floods of Austin by the Colorado River in the 1930’s, before there were dams. She remembered standing in long lines with other hungry people waiting for a piece of bread. Eventually, the family ended up in San Antonio with relatives.
Sadness came along on October 31st, 1941; Annie lost her dad in a work-related accident. Annie’s Grandmother in Monterrey, Mexico, volunteered to raise her youngest brother who was only months old. Annie would take trips by herself to meet her grandfather, a railroad engineer in Mexico, so she could visit her little brother.
During World War II, Annie worked in the sewing factories in San Antonio making military uniforms.
Annie attended Sidney Lanier High School and graduated in 1947 and a member of the National Honor Society.
Somewhere, between school, work and taking care of her mom and brothers, Annie met Fernando Moreno. They were married August 9, 1952 at St. Michael Catholic Church in San Antonio. Annie and Fernando raised five children: Elizabeth, Michael, Louis, George, and Cathy. Annie was the typical American mother driving the children to school, being a member of the PTA, being a homeroom mother, helping with the school carnival, taking the children to CCD at St. Ann Catholic Church. She had a beautiful voice and sang in the church choir. In August 2017; they celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary.
Once all the children were in school, Annie went to work part-time for Sears at the downtown location. When Annie and Fernando retired, they traveled throughout the United States. They traveled to Spain,
Italy, and the Holy Land. In 1987, Annie traveled to Yugoslavia, so see the apparition of Our Lady of Medjugorje.
