Antonia “Tonie” Diaz of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on August 9, 2025.
She is survived by her beloved sisters, Eduarda Schwarzbach, Felicitas Lane (Joseph), and Socorro Teran; nephews Tomas Teran (Patricia), Glen Schwarzbach (Rosa), Alan Schwarzbach, and Mark Lane (Marlene); nieces Tanya Wolverton (Eric) and Ruth Baltierra; six great-nephews and six great-nieces; three great-great nephews and three great-great nieces; and a host of dear friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Refugia “Cuca” Diaz.
Tonie graduated from San Antonio Tech High School and began her career at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a Frame Attendant. She remained a dedicated employee through the company’s evolution into AT&T, retiring after many years of service. In retirement, Tonie pursued her wide array of interests and passions, continued her education, and never stopped seeking new knowledge or meaningful connections.
A proud Texan and devoted Christian, Tonie was passionate about her faith, her city, and the causes she cared deeply about. She was an enthusiastic supporter of the Republican Party and founded the Facebook group “Constitutional Patriots,” where she fostered political discussion and community. Tonie was also a lifelong fan of women’s basketball and a proud San Antonio Spurs season ticket holder.
Deeply knowledgeable about San Antonio’s rich history, Tonie was a natural tour guide and ambassador for her city. She welcomed visitors with warmth and insight, sharing her love for the places and people that made her hometown special.
Tonie’s generous spirit, strong convictions, and deep love for her family and friends touched many lives. She will be dearly missed.
A celebration of Tonie’s life will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice in her honor.
