

On Friday morning July 22, 2022, Armando Albert Cortez of San Antonio, TX entered into eternal rest at the age of 76. Armando was born to Bertha and Ramiro Cortez on July 11th 1946, the 2nd of 14 children. He attended St. Anthonys Seminary and graduated from St. Marys University in 1969. After high school Armando attended the Novitiate in Sarita TX where he contemplated joining the priesthood as his older brother. While he ultimately refrained, he spent a lifetime devoted to his Catholic faith.
Armando worked for 2 years as a teacher before working 29 years for the Texas Rehabilitation Commission as a rehabilitation counselor and retiring. After retirement he worked as an instructor at Easter Seals for 17 years. He met and married his wife Ruth in 1973 and they raised 3 children together Keyla, Kara and Caleb.
Armando lived his professional life helping others with all kinds of disabilities (physical, mental, and emotional) and made a lasting impression on everyone he came into contact with his ready smile and thoughtful demeanor. He made many lifelong friendships with his coworkers.
Armando was a lover of the arts and had many passions and interests including flamenco guitar, the symphony, Opera, the Moody Blues, theater, history, film, novels, the outdoors and enjoyed many sports cars over his lifetime. Above all he valued spending time with family and loved sharing his wisdom.
Armando is preceded in death by his parents Ramiro and Bertha Cortez. He is survived by his wife Ruth, children Keyla (Jacinto), Kara (Jyrell), Caleb (Christina) and siblings Ftr. Ramiro Cortez OMI, Carlos (Ann) Cortez, Alfred (Rosemary) Cortez, Suzzanna (Steven) Currier, Lourdes Ramirez, Carmen (Edgar) Saldana, George (Ludi) Cortez, Maria Dolores Cortez M.D., Olga (Ernest) Munoz, Paula (John) Strelchun, John (Gladys) Cortez, Tom (Dolores) Cortez, Sam (Graciela) Cortez; grandchildren: Toms Villarreal, Belisia Villarreal, Valor Villarreal, Hosanna Villarreal, C. Honor Villarreal, Rachael Cortez, Hannah Cortez, Ellise Cortez and Phoebe Cortez and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-6:00 p.m. on Monday, August 8, 2022 at Porter Loring West, 1710 W. Loop 1604 North. A funeral service will begin at 6:00 p.m. followed by a rosary at 7:00 p.m.
Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at Mission San Jose Catholic Church, 701 E. Pyron Ave., San Antonio, Texas. Interment will follow in San Jose Burial Park. For those who were unable to attend, the Monday services were recorded and may be viewed below.
