Lt. Col. Carl E. Smith, U.S. Army (Ret.) passed away on Monday, March 13, 2017 in San Antonio. He was born in Grayson, Kentucky on August 24, 1945 to Harmer and Virginia Smith. He was a proud alumnus of the University of Kentucky. From 1969 to 1999 he proudly served in the United States Army. During his active duty, he was a social worker and loved to play golf in his leisure time. He most recently was working for the AMEDD Center and School on Ft. Sam Houston.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Patricia A. Hoef. Carl is survived by his wife, Kathleen G. Smith; daughters, Melissa D. Rodriguez (Christopher) and Staci D. Guillot (Nolan J.); Grandchildren: Dillon S. Rodriguez, Alanis E. Rodriguez, Maeve E. Rodriguez; brother, Robert D. Smith (Betty); niece, Lisa R. Smith; nephew, Matthew Smith; sister, Marguerite Hoef (Raymond); niece, Devra H. LeFevre; and nephews, John Hoef and Robert Gilbert; sister, Donna Sue Hardy (Ed); and nephews, Byron Hardy and Eric Hardy.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Friday, March 17, 2017, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
Interment will take place in Smith Claxon Cemetery.
