Arthur Robert Zunker, Jr., passed peacefully in his sleep at his residence in Heath, TX, March 7, 2023. Arthur (Art) was born August 2, 1943, in Columbus MS. The family relocated back to Texas in 1946. He attended St. Mary Magdalen Elementary, St. Gregory’s Middle School, and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1961 in San Antonio, TX. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Texas A & I University in Kingsville, TX in 1966. He was hired immediately out of college by U.S. Gypsum in Sweetwater, TX. He married Cheryl Grimes, of Sweetwater on May 17, 1967. In 1970 he left U.S.G. for a position with The Centex Corporation in Dallas, TX. During his 38 year employment with the company he advanced through Centex Corp., Centex Construction Products, Illinois Cement in La Salle, IL, Centex Oil & Gas (Cenergy), returning to Centex Construction Products, and achieving the position of Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Eagle Materials in Dallas, ringing the closing bell of the New York Stock Exchange February 9, 2004, and proudly serving until his retirement in 2008. Art and Cheryl settled on their final place of residence in Heath, TX, where Art proudly served as President of the Wyndemere Homeowners Association. He particularly loved his neighborhood, the residents, and was highly dedicated to his civic duties within the community. Art was forever the racing enthusiast. From his car club as a teen in San Antonio, to power boating on Lake Texoma, to drag racing with family and friends across the country, to watching NASCAR and Formula 1, if it went fast Art was interested. He loved vintage cars and attending auto shows. Art was also a collector, baseball cards and coins in his youth, to stamps and high end bourbons later in life. He was proudest of his new tasting room where he could entertain guests and share his love of bourbon and other spirits. Art was a self professed connoisseur of barbecue and loved hitting the local hot spots to “get his fix”. When he wasn’t on the go hunting barbecue and bourbon, Art loved watching golf on TV in his “Man Cave” and also loved working in his garden. He is preceded in death by his parents Arthur R.
