Barbara Dale Fillinger, known lovingly as Barbara, passed away on May 16, 2026, in Helotes, Texas, at the age of 79. Born on November 7, 1946, in San Antonio, Texas, she lived a life marked by intelligence, spirit, courage, and deep devotion to the people and values she held dear. She was a Christian whose faith offered strength, comfort, and guidance throughout her life, and she carried herself with grace, determination, and a warm heart that touched many.
Barbara graduated from Burbank High School with honors and immediately began what would become a remarkable insurance career spanning more than 30 years. She approached her work with exceptional dedication and professionalism, and she excelled in her field throughout the many years she spent serving others. As life took her and her family across Texas, she worked for many of the top companies in the insurance industry and earned the respect of colleagues and clients alike. Her career reflected not only her intelligence and strong work ethic, but also her ability to adapt, lead, and succeed wherever she was called to serve.
Barbara was the kind of person who met life with confidence and courage. She was spirited in all that she did, and those who knew her will remember her for her lively personality, her sharp mind, and her steadfast presence. She had a gift for making others feel seen and valued, and she brought energy and authenticity to every room she entered. Her life was one of resilience and purpose, and she faced each season with strength and determination.
Outside of her professional life, Barbara found great joy in the lake life she loved so much. She was an avid water skier and embraced every opportunity to be on the water. The lake was a place of happiness and freedom for her, and it reflected the adventurous spirit that defined her. Whether she was enjoying time outdoors or sharing moments with family and friends, Barbara lived with enthusiasm and a deep appreciation for the simple pleasures that made life meaningful.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 61 years, James; her children, David Fillinger (Holli), Karen Fillinger (Jason); and her grandchildren, Dylan Fillinger, Daxton Fillinger, and Hadley Joseph. She also leaves behind a family who will carry forward her memory with love and gratitude. Her devotion to her family was evident in the way she lived, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her. The bonds she built and the love she shared will remain a lasting part of her legacy.
Her life was a testament to the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, who wrote, “To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.” Barbara did indeed succeed in this way. She made life brighter for those around her through her strength, her kindness, her intelligence, and her unwavering spirit. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Barbara Dale Fillinger will be remembered with love, admiration, and respect. Her journey through life was one of purpose, faith, and enduring devotion, and her legacy will remain a source of comfort and inspiration.
