Barbara Lucille Hill, age 86, passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2023, in San Antonio, Texas. Barbara was born in San Antonio on July 14, 1937, to parents, Lucille Margaret (Schier) and Roland Elbel. She graduated from Incarnate Word College in 1959. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 43 years, Danny Duane Hill; her parents, Lucille and Roland Elbel; her sisters, JoAnn Parsons and Sharon Elbel.
A woman of faith and much passion and respect for the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, Barbara dedicated much of her life to Santa Rosa Hospital, having worked for Sister Mary Vincent O’Donnell, one of the first administrators at the helm of the hospital. Barbara was proud and felt privileged that she was the only Santa Rosa Employee to ever be married at St. John's Chapel on the Santa Rosa campus in July of 1967 to Danny Duane "Dan" Hill. They were married for 43 blissful years. Dan's work would take them to California and other destinations, but later in life came back to San Antonio. Barbara found a position with Santa Rosa Children's Hospital Foundation, where her passion was to take good care of the Board of Directors of the Foundation. She knew everyone's birthday, always wore a smile, and greeted all with joy and grace, so much so that her boss would refer to her as the director of first impressions.
Barbara is survived by her pride and joy, daughter Stephanie Hill. Barbara was so proud of Stephanie's nursing profession to serve the ill and so grateful that she was in her care, what better compassion and loving hands. Stephanie's children, Dylan, Zachary and twins Madison and Jackson were the sparkle in Barbara's beautiful blue eyes along with great-grandson, Noah, whom she was blessed to share magical moments with.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to her caregiver Dru Jones, who provided her with loving care and companionship as well as Caring Hands Hospice, most especially Casey, Marina, and Nadine, who showed such great compassion and care in Barbara’s final weeks. The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at Porter Loring Mortuary.
