Barbara Dean (Swanner) Melton, spent a lifetime pouring herself into her family and friends. She radiated peace, comfort, patience, joy and love for her husband, children and grandchildren and our hearts are broken at her passing. Barbara was born in Amherst, Texas. She spent her childhood in McCamey, Texas where she played basketball, made music with her family and was crowned Football Sweetheart her senior year. She met Roger Melton, the love of her life, and last year they celebrated 60 years of marriage. Barbara served her community as a nurse, supported her children as they grew and had children of their own, delighted in a cutthroat game of cards and dominoes, laughed infectiously, trounced Sudoku puzzles, read voraciously, watered her precious flowers and plants, and danced even in the darkest moments. Her love was effortless, and she lived her faith in Jesus in a way that drew people to her and to Him. Barbara passed away on October 2, 2023. She is survived by her husband, Theodore Roger Melton Jr.; her daughter, Toni Aden along with her husband, Kent, and their two children, Justin and Ashley Aden; her son, Roger Wade Melton, along with his wife, Kirsta, and their two children, Campbell and Brant Melton; her sisters Dale Graham (Jeff) and Laqueta Bond (Willy); her brother David Swanner (Crystal); sister-in-law Marianne Dixon (Charles); 3 nieces, 8 nephews and all of their children. Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and L.B. Swanner, her brother Floyd “Butch” Swanner and her sister Donna Clack.
A ceremony to honor Barbara’s life will be held on October 19th at 10:00 a.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas with a reception to follow.
