Barbara was born in San Antonio to Frank Graham and Ella Mumme on November 4, 1942. She attended school in San Antonio and married James Samsel on May 14, 1966. She worked as a keypunch operator for USAA for several years before becoming a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. While raising her children she supplemented the family income with sewing and alterations, and later served as accountant and office manager for Alamo Heights Hardware until her retirement.
Barbara loved doing things for and spending time with her family. She took great joy in tending her flower, fern, and cactus gardens, where she created beauty with her hands and patience. Above all, Barbara had a deep and abiding love for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ—a love that shone in her kindness, generosity, and the gentle way she treated everyone around her.
Barbara was preceded in death by her father Frank, mother Ella, sister Joan, and beloved husband James. She is survived by her daughter Cindy Armstrong (David); son James Samsel, Jr. (Heather); grandson Andrew Armstrong; and other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
Pallbearers will be James Samsel, Jr, David Armstrong, Andrew Armstrong, Steve Schneider, Kyle Schneider, Ryan Cosper.
Visitation will be at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, Texas 78218.
