By a quirk of fate she was born in Kansas City, Mo, although she lived her entire life in San Antonio and traces her family history back to James Power, one of the signers of the Texas Declaration of Independence.
She attended Our Lady of the Lake from kindergarten through High School, then went on to The University of Texas at Austin, earning a dual major with Bachelor's Degrees in Education and Spanish. She held a teaching certificate for all grades in both English and Spanish. She renewed her academic interests when her sons were older. She went to Our Lady of the Lake College and received a Master's Degree of Education with a major in Counseling. She was a licensed marriage and family therapist.
Barbara was an excellent pianist, occasionally giving concerts at the Tuesday Musical Club and later playing the church organ at Holy Cross Episcopal Church.
She was a member of the Daughters of the King.
She worked as a schoolteacher on two separate occasions - right out of college and a second time while working on her Master's Degree. She worked for a few years as the Assistant Director of Jewish Family Services.
She is survived by her husband of 20 years, the Rev. Albert L. Snyder as well as four sons and two stepchildren: Stuart Harris, Michael Harris, Paul Harris, Joel Harris, Philip Snyder and Deborah Mosbarger.
