Beatriz was born in Tampico, Mexico to Margarita Hernandez and Juventino Garcia Garcia in 1941. At the age of 9, Beatriz and her mother moved to Lasara, TX and formed a lifelong bond with the community. Lasara is the place where Beatriz met her soulmate/husband of 62 years, Manuel G. Rodriguez. Eventually, Beatriz moved into her and Manuel’s brand new house in Lasara and helped create, for many decades, lasting memories with their children, grandchildren, and extended family. Beatriz cherished relationships: immediate family, extended family, and friends. A motto she often followed: Love people with kindness. One of her favorite home remedies for what ailed you-a simple gentle touch.
Beatriz loved living life. She loved flowers, trees, cooking for family and friends a like. Some favorite items in her cooking repertoire included homemade flour and corn tortillas, beans (in all different manners), mole, sopitas (especially fideo), guisos, caldos, tacos (all types), fried fish, fresh baked bread, donuts! Beatriz was a clever crafter: sewing, crochet, embroidery, gardening, calligraphy, repurposing. Beatriz loved many music styles: classical, easy-listening, rock n roll, rancheras, country especially John Denver. Beatriz worked different jobs in Lasara: at the Watson’s store, at the original Lasara school library, at the community center, and at the only salon at the time, Bea’s salon, which she owned and operated. Many customers received not only a nice haircut but also a friendly chat, advice (if asked), consolation, warm hug, encouragement, wisdom. Beatriz’s achievements were grand at the humble level. She never wavered from her faith in God.
Those who knew her well and those who knew her briefly, will be hard pressed to ever forget her signature smile that often showed the dimples on her cheeks, her warm hugs, her gentle ways, her tender heart.
