Betty grew up in Cleveland, Ohio and was the daughter of Sarah and John Gray Faulds. Bettys love of dance inspired her to earn a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from Kent State University and a Masters degree in the Science of Exercise from the University of Michigan. Go Blue! She then set her sights on heading up the dance program at the University of Florida where she was on the faculty. Go Gators! This was where she met the love of her life, Jack Kimbrough. They were married on June 20, 1953 and began a military life of travel and adventure. They lived in numerous places, while raising five children, including Japan, Hawaii, England and three assignments to San Antonio.
A life rooted in faith, family, sports and dance, Betty stayed busy raising five children while working numerous hours volunteering. She was a big part of Reach to Recovery, an organization that helped women after breast cancer surgery, where she served many years visiting patients in the hospital and bringing encouragement and rehab exercises to them. She also volunteered for family assistance programs educating young families on childcare and giving support to those in need. She could be seen at all the grandchildrens music concerts and sporting events- no matter the weather.
When her children were older she loved working on the faculty at San Antonio College teaching modern dance, golf and tennis classes. She also traveled extensively with family and enjoyed life to the fullest. With all that Betty did and accomplished her most amazing gift was the kindness she unfailingly showed to everyone she met. Her light shone so brightly!
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Colonel (Ret.) Jack Kimbrough, her brother John H. Faulds and her parents.
She leaves behind her daughters: Laurie Miller, Sarie (David) Garrett, Janet (Dan) Slattery, Judy (Trent) Garmoe and son John (Kelly) Kimbrough. She is also survived by grandchildren: Jennifer (Scott) Bailey, Blake (Jenni) Miller, Rebecca (James) Burnside, Lauren (Geoff) Wehmeyer, Doug (Casey) Slattery, Ryan Kimbrough, Grant Kimbrough, Cameron Garmoe, Garrett Garmoe and great-grandchildren: Audrey, James, Jack, Kaitlin, Connor, Vivian along with numerous other precious family and friends.
The legacy of Bettys thoughtful and kind spirit, love of family, humor and zest for life will continue to guide and live on through them. Her six grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
