To know her was to love her. Surrounded by her loving family, Betty Jean Timberlake Petty passed away peacefully on the morning of April 10, 2022. The only child of Douglas Lafayette Timberlake and Ruth Smith Timberlake, she was born on June 15, 1928, in the small town of Blewett, TX. Later, moving to San Antonio as a teen, she was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School. Shortly after graduation she married John D. Petty on August 16, 1947. Through lean times and good times, she always put family first and they shared 68 years together until his death in 2015.
Betty was the mother of four children and dedicated her life to them. She was a constant loving presence no matter what obstacles presented themselves. She had many talents. She was an accomplished cook, avid gardener and master needle work artist creating what will become family heirlooms. She was a true friend to those in her friendship circles. Above all, she was an inspiring role model to all that knew her, and she was the heart of the family.
She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, and the San Antonio Needlework Guild. She made close friends during her stitching times and was hostess to many days of enjoyable camaraderie with "the ladies". She thoroughly enjoyed her times when the DAR gathered for meetings and events. She made many friends and was loved for her smile, her willingness to help, and her enthusiasm.
She was preceded in death by her husband John, her daughter Elizabeth, and her great grandson JJ Seewald. She is survived by her children Joan Polk and husband Mike, Carolyn Cummings and husband Gene, and Jack and wife Patricia J. Petty. She is also survived by her grandson John Seewald and wife Gwynn, her granddaughter Bailey Nichols and husband Andy, her grandson Wade Gentz and wife Michelle, and her granddaughter Lacey Iapichino and husband Chris. She is also survived by great grandchildren Tori Seewald, Aaron Nichols, Elizabeth Nichols, Ruby Gentz, Tabitha Gentz, and Clayton Iapichino. She is also survived by a nephew (Jerry Jordan) and a niece (Beth Melvin) who spent parts of many years with her being a second mother.
The family would like to offer special thanks to Hortencia Contreras for the love and care she bestowed on Bettys final years. We would also like to acknowledge and thank Embrace Hospice and Family Tree Home Health.
