Bettye Jeane Hauser went to be with our Lord and Savior on Monday, Dec. 02, 2024 at her home in San Antonio, TX. She was born Bettye Jeane Miller to Cecil Roy Miller and Alice Beatrice Beach Miller on June 03, 1932 in a Magnolia Oil Field Camp near Clemscott, OK with 2 older brothers: Clifford Harold Miller, born 1923, and Charles Delbert Miller, born 1927 - all preceding her in death. Her father was Construction Foreman and later Production Foreman for Magnolia Oil and her mother was a 'stay at home Mom', serving as her role model as a wife and mother. Bettye attended St. Louis Oklahoma School, earning honors as a Valedictorian at her high school graduation. She then earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Interior Design from the University of Oklahoma in 1954.
She met the love of her life, Victor LaVern Hauser, at a Sunday School class in Amarillo, and married him in 1958.They loved to go dancing and one of their favorite tunes was 'The Purple People Eater' by Sheb Wooley. She and 'Vic' later had 2 boys, Bret Randal (1961) and Matt Russell (1964).
She said her first job was ironing for a next door neighbor who hated to iron, but entered the workforce more formally after graduating from OU as an Interior Designer in Amarillo, TX. There, she served for several years, decorating one of the Better Homes and Garden's 'House of the Year' built in Amarillo. She discovered an interest in Income Tax Preparation later in life and worked for H&R Block for 15 years as a Tax Preparer; being named 'District Preparer of the Year’ in 1991.
She served tirelessly in a wide variety of volunteer roles including Cub Scouts, Church administration, Church Sunday School teaching, creating a Church Chrismon Tree program in Durant OK, President of the Temple TX Newcomer's Club, Temple Service League and Volunteer with Tax Counseling for the Elderly to name a few. A favorite memory was her son, Bret's reaction when she opened the door to a Cub Scout meeting on Halloween dressed as the Wicked Witch of the West. Among her numerous efforts to help the Scouts, she became a popular Den Leader in Bryan, TX earning an 'Award of Merit'. She was also a primary driver of the Cub Scout program in Durant, OK and Temple, TX receiving award as a Century Member of the Heart of Texas Council for her years of service.
She felt fortunate to be able to stay home with both sons. She was an excellent cook, enjoying new recipes and, particularly, making decorated cakes for any occasion she could dream up. She was an obsessive reader and enjoyed all kinds of handwork, particularly knitting and counted cross stitch. While living in Temple, TX, she won 2 blue ribbons at the Bell County Fair for a Fair Isle Sweater Vest and an Irish 'Aran' sometimes called 'Fisherman Knit' pattern afghan that she knitted.
Bettye is survived by her husband of 64 years, Victor Hauser; son and daughter-in-law, Bret and Karen Hauser of Fort Worth, TX, son and daughter-in-law, Matt Hauser and Elaine Hill of Houston, TX; 5 grandchildren, Kari, Mark, DJ, Adrian and Jason; 2 great-grandchildren, Luke and Ella; and numerous nieces and nephews.
