Beverly is survived and deeply missed by her husband of 51 years, Lt. Colonel Thomas Wilford White, USAF of Canyon Lake, TX; mother, Frances Martha Zann (Szubrych) of Deer Park, TX; son Jamie, daughter-in-law Amy and grandson Logan of McQueeney, TX; son Jason, daughter-in-law Darla and grandchildren Jase, Jake, Jena, and Jaks of Austin, TX; sister Paulette and husband, Anthony Chavez, M.D. of Houston, TX; brother David Zann and wife JoLynn of Deer Park, TX; sister Monica and husband, Kevin Lensenski of Deer Park, TX along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.
Beverly was born on October 14, 1951 to Raymond Zann and Frances Szubychin in Houston, TX. She graduated from Incarnate Word Academy in Houston, TX, where she enjoyed cheerleading. After high school, she attended the University of Houston where she met her future husband, Tom, at his brother’s wedding. After Tom completed Officer Training School in San Antonio, TX, Beverly and 2nd Lieutenant Tom White were married at the Mather AFB chapel on June 10, 1972.
As a military wife with two young children, she followed Tom in his career as a flying officer in the United States Air Force. She continued her education and received a Bachelor of Science in Education from Arkansas State University then received a Master of Science in Education from the University of Nebraska. Beverly received additional teaching accreditations from the University of Texas in San Antonio. These accomplishments demonstrated her determination and the importance of education in her life that she shared with her family.
Beverly loved teaching and educating students with special needs. She was admired by her students and co-workers alike. She worked as a substitute teacher in Omaha, NE and Monterey, CA. She began her full-time teaching career in San Antonio at Holy Spirit Catholic School then taught at Bradley Middle School and Oak Meadow Elementary, where she retired from but continued to substitute teach afterward.
Beverly was a life-long health and outdoor enthusiast. She ran marathons, including the Rock and Roll Marathon twice and completed her last 5k only eight years ago. She was also an avid swimmer and developed a love of Yoga and Pilates over the last ten years. Through Yoga and Pilates she meet many wonderful friends, for which she was forever grateful. Even into her sixties, she continued to water ski and wake surf. She snow skied nearly all of her adult life, enjoying the mountains in Canada, Colorado, Utah, and New Mexico. She completed her last snow ski run two years ago in Red River, NM after recovering from her first brain surgery.
Beverly deeply loved and cherished her family. Her ultimate passion was for her five grandchildren, whom lovingly called her GeBe. She cherished every minute with each of them, from attending school and sporting events to celebrating birthdays, holidays, and everything in between. We jokingly say the only reason she had kids was to have grandkids!
Tom and Beverly purchased a family vacation home in Port Aransas in 2003. They later remodeled this home together and made a place for the whole family to enjoy. Tom and Beverly later built a home together overlooking Canyon Lake. She enjoyed the process of building, with a passion for painting and trim carpentry. In the Canyon Lake house, she did the trim work for over 20 windows and doors, some over 30 feet from the floor. She had a keen eye for detail and precision, which made her finishing touches an art form.
Beverly battled glioblastoma for over two years. She maintained a positive outlook even through countless nights in the hospital while recovering from two brain surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation, and experimental drug trials. Her family is especially grateful to all of the doctors, nurses, health care providers, friends, and family members who provided support and comfort throughout her brave battle with cancer.
