

Billy Gene Kring Jr., born July 12, 1950, in San Angelo, Texas, passed away on October 22, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas. The son of Billy Gene Kring and Laverne Wilson Kring, Billy was a graduate of Sabinal High School. He pursued studies in criminal justice at Southwest Texas State University before beginning a career with the Texas Department of Public Safety. He later transitioned to the United States Border Patrol, where he advanced rapidly and ultimately attained the distinguished position as Chief Patrol Agent of the Miami Sector. After retiring from federal service, Billy followed his passion for storytelling by self-publishing numerous novels.
Billy enjoyed playing tennis and mentoring young players. In retirement, he remained active in his hometown community. He was a proud Mason and a member of the Fraternal Order of Retired Border Patrol Officers.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Mark; and his son, Lee. Billy is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth Bradley Kring; children Melanie, Tasha, Tammi, Nathan, and Robert; grandchildren Jessica, William, Clay Jr., Bradlee, Brett, Emma, Carson, Tyler, Ashlie, and Cora; bonus grandchildren Kelsey and Kenzey; great-grandchild Eloise; and his siblings Mike, David, Gayle, and Eric.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Sabinal at the Sabinal Independent School District cafeteria, 409 West Cullins Avenue, Sabinal, TX 78881, on Saturday, November 1 at 2:00 p.m. A second gathering will take place in San Antonio on Saturday, November 8 at 2:00 p.m. at Porter Loring Mortuary West, 1710 W Loop 1604 N, San Antonio, TX 78251. A reception will follow. Guests are encouraged to dress in “Billy Kring” style or comfortably to honor his memory.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Border Patrol Museum or the Sabinal Athletic Booster Club.
