At a young age, Bob made the courageous decision to enlist in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He did not wait to be drafted – he volunteered, driven by a deep love for his country and a strong sense of duty. Serving as a Notifications Officer, Bob carried one of the Army’s most solemn responsibilities with dignity and compassion. For his service and bravery, he was awarded the Bronze Star during his tour in Vietnam, an honor he accepted with humility and pride. His service was a defining part of his life, and his love for his country endured to the very end.
Following his military service, Bob built a long and successful career as a retail manager. Known for his work ethic, fairness, and leadership, he earned the respect of colleagues and employees alike. He was a “real man” in every sense – dependable, principled, and a true role model to his family and community.
Bob was well known for his unforgettable toasts at weddings, holidays, and special occasions. Thoughtful, heartfelt, and often touched with humor, his words had a way of bringing people together and making moments memorable. He was also an avid reader, always eager to learn, reflect, and engage with the world around him.
Above all else, Bob loved his family. He was deeply devoted to his wife, cherished his children, and had a special, joyful bond with his grandchildren, who were the light of his life. Some of Bob’s happiest moments were spent on family trips to South Padre Island, a cherished tradition for more than 40 years, where he enjoyed laughter, togetherness, and the company of those he loved.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Kenneth Busby. Bob is survived by his wife, Patricia Busby; daughters, Rhonda Wooldridge (Lane) and Melanie Dovzak; grandchildren, Rachael Wooldridge, Henry Wooldridge, and Shelby Dovzak; sisters, Kathryn Fleming, Sue Lamastus, Jeanie Perkins; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 2, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a Memorial Service to follow at Porter Loring Mortuary North, located at 2102 North Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, TX 78232.
Inurnment with military honors will immediately follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:15 p.m.
In lie of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans or the Alzheimer's Association.
