

She was born June 17, 1926 in Morganfield, Kentucky, to Welborn Boyd and Callie Cissell Harris. She was a music major at Murray State University prior to her marriage to L. Raeburn Hamner Jr. on January 29, 1947. They had two children while living in Dallas and moved to Amarillo, Texas, in January 1958.
Callie was heavily involved in the activities at Polk Street Methodist Church in Amarillo. She sang in the choir, served on the Board, served as Trustee, was head of the Worship Committee for several years, helped in the youth department, and attended the Susanna Wesley Sunday School Class and later the Life Together Class.
She was active in the other aspects of the Amarillo community as well, serving on the Family Service Board, Travelers Aid Board, Amarillo Symphony Guild Board, Bankers Wives Board, state and local American Heart Association, the Genealogical Advisory Board, the Amarillo Solicitation Review Board, and was a Girl Scout Leader. She was a member of the Art Force, Art Alliance, Symphony Guild, Esther McCrory Chapter of the DAR, friends of the Botanical Gardens, the Triad Book Club, and her beloved Thursday morning Bible Study group. Callie also enjoyed a good bridge game with friends.
She was pre-deceased by her parents, a sister, Florence Stodgill, and her brother, W.B. Harris, Jr.
She is survived by a daughter, Callie Hamner Anderson and her husband, Steve, of Morganfield, Kentucky, and a son, Dr. Lawrence R. Hamner III of San Antonio, Texas; five grandchildren: Renie Anderson McCloskey (Chris), Katie Anderson Tegge (David), Hudson Hamner, Liz Hamner Vance (Daniel), and Brandon Hamner; and six great grandchildren: Callie and Kate McCloskey, Will and Luke Tegge, Henry and Mary Lawrence Vance. She was a loving and selfless mother and grandmother completely devoted to her family. Callie is the second of five matriline generations of Callies, her mother being the first.
