

Dr. Nelson was born in Chicago, IL, January 18, 1927.
He attended high school in Aurora, Illinois and after a stint in the Navy during WWII, then returned for a year at Aurora College. Moving to Austin, Texas, in 1947, he attended St. Edwards University and finished his pre-professional work at U.T. Austin.
In 1955, after completing medical school and training in Chicago and Detroit, Dr. Nelson settled in San Antonio. He then joined his late father, C. Raymond Nelson, D.O., in practice for over 20 years prior to the late doctor's death.
Dr. Nelson was an Admiral in the Texas Navy, worked with the Boy Scouts of America for approximately 10 years and joined Lion's Clubs International in 1961. As an avid philatelist and served 3 terms as president of the San Antonio Philatelic Association and 2 terms as president of the Texas Philatelic Association.
Later, he disposed of his stamp holdings and began to collect memorabilia of the 1893 Columbian Exposition. This led to an association with the San Antonio Antiques Club.
He was preceded in death by, his grandson, Kristopher Kasper.
Dr. Cal is survived by his dear friend of 40 years, companion and care-giver Patricia Johnston , daughters Karen Nelson of Grand Prairie; Lori Kasper and husband Richard of Lake Travis; son Mark Nelson; grandsons Johnathan Gillen; Michael B. Nelson and Blake Kasper and granddaughter Karly Kasper; also a brother Bruce Nelson of San Antonio.
